FitnessGram

May 22, 2008

During the 80th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 530 was passed to require fitness assessments for students in grades 3-12 starting in the 2007-2008 school year.  Therefore, all 3rd-8th grade students at Monte Alto ISD participated in a physical fitness assessment called FitnessGram.  The students were tested in the required areas of aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.  The testing areas included the following:

Aerobic Capacity- The pacer

Body Composition-Body Mass Index (height and weight)

Strength and Endurance-Curl-up (basic sit-up)

Strength and Flexibility-Trunk Lift

Strength and Endurance-Push-up

Flexibility-Sit and Reach and Shoulder stretch

All students worked very hard on the different areas tested. This was a huge task for the coaches.  We want to thank them for all of their hard work in fulfilling this requirement.

Students will take this test yearly until they graduate from high school.
